Articulated AFO

The Surestep Articulated AFO (ankle-foot orthosis) is designed for kids and teens with mild to moderate hypotonia or hypertonia, or gait challenges such as toe walking. Ideal for independent ambulators, this durable AFO promotes a more typical heel-toe walking pattern and improves dorsiflexion during swing phase.

How to Order

Indications:

  • Hypotonia
  • Mild to moderate hypertonicity
  • Flexible pronation or supination
  • Poor sagittal plane control of ankle and knee
  • Excessive plantarflexion
  • Atypical gait pattern
  • Sufficient range of motion to use ankle movement without collapse at midfoot
  • Mild to moderate coronal plane instability of midfoot/ankle

Contraindications:

  • Poor proximal trunk control
  • Crouch gait/weakness in soleus/quads
  • Reduced ankle range of motion
  • Severe coronal plane instability of midfoot/ankle

Functional Support:

These devices offer support and stability to promote function and address low/high tone. Patients are able to actively correct when cued.

Alignment Control:

These devices provide maximum support and positioning with limited flexibility within the device and address high tone. Patients are able to actively correct when cued.
