From the beginning, we have worked to change how kids with developmental challenges have to live. Our founder, Bernie Veldman, didn’t accept the painful and harsh orthotics his son Kevin had to wear when he was younger, so he developed a more kid-friendly solution. Then along came Surestep. Kevin was the first to benefit from the innovative compression methods that Bernie designed, but certainly not the last.

We understand that a child might be resistant to the idea of wearing orthotics. Some styles are rigid and can restrict movement. That’s why Surestep is different. Surestep products use the unique principle of compressing the foot into alignment. Through the use of an extremely lightweight, thin and flexible plastic, Surestep allows for a more natural walking motion, along with a wide range of motion. Another defining aspect of Surestep is its special trimlines. These encourage normal movement, allowing a child to enjoy all the fun playtime activities. This makes for happy kids, and happy kids means happy parents.
The entire Surestep fabrication process was designed with the kiddos who wear them in mind. For example, many custom orthoses require casting which is a time-consuming, messy and often a traumatic process for smaller children. The Surestep SMO along with many of its other products require only measurements. It’s simple, it’s quick and it’s effective.
