Solid AFO
The Surestep Solid AFO (ankle-foot orthosis) is designed for kids and teens with poor sagittal plane stability, midfoot and ankle coronal plane instability, and/or limited range of motion. Made from durable plastic with a soft inner boot, it blocks plantarflexion and dorsiflexion for improved foot, knee, and trunk alignment. The Surestep Solid AFO helps kids move with better balance, more stability, and greater efficiency.
Ideal for diagnoses like hypotonia, hypertonia, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and more, the Solid AFO helps reduce excessive toe walking, crouch gait, and scissoring patterns. It also offers support for non-ambulatory children who need better lower extremity alignment in a stander or wheelchair.
Indications:
- Poor stability of ankles, knees, hips, and trunk
- Limited range of motion
- Excessive plantarflexion or crouch gait
- Hypertonicity
- Severe midfoot collapse or rocker bottom foot
- Moderate to significant toe walking
Contraindications:
- Would benefit from more flexibility
Functional Support:
These devices offer support and stability to promote function and address low/high tone. Patients are able to actively correct when cued.
Alignment Control:
These devices provide maximum support and positioning with limited flexibility within the device and address high tone. Patients are able to actively correct when cued.
